Douglas M. Somerville, CPCU

Senior Advisor

Doug Somerville holds the position of Senior Advisor, Renaissance Group. His primary role encompasses the development and management of Renaissance Group's specialized commercial risk programs. He coordinates inter-company relations among the various Renaissance Group companies including the rapidly growing Bermuda-based captive, Minuteman Insurance Co., Ltd.

Doug first came to Renaissance Group through the Cochrane & Porter Insurance Agency, Inc., the parent company of Renaissance Insurance Agency, which he joined in 1986. With his broad insurance expertise, he was instrumental in contributing to the organization of Managed Risk Alternatives, Inc. in 1992. MRA specializes in alternative risk funding programs such as self-insured groups, captives and rent-a-captives.

Doug has an extensive background in all lines of property and casualty insurance with particular expertise in workers' compensation. He was employed by Royal Insurance Company in New York and New Jersey for twenty years. He served as Assistant Regional Manager for Royal's New Jersey office prior to becoming Chief Executive of their highly successful national commercial mass marketing operation, which he helped design and implement.

A Lehigh University graduate, Doug holds the professional designation of Certified Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU).
