Carrier Representative

The carrier representative serves as our resident expert for their assigned carriers. They will develop an exceptional level of knowledge with respect to their carriers rating systems, product offerings, coverage enhancements, class appetites, and internal operations. Work with agents and account coordinators to negotiate best possible pricing and coverage on all submissions to their carrier.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Review all submissions received daily and identify whether ratable or if submission is needed.
  • Secure all markets via submission within 24 hours.
  • Identify any carrier specific information required within 48 hours.
  • Complete rating of all in house submissions within 72 hours of receipt.
  • Effectively negotiate premiums, within 10% of carriers’ maximum credit on average.
  • Assist Agents in writing business, and enabling RAIS to meet carrier production goals.

Provide agents producers with a competitive edge in the marketplace by providing product, and industry expertise and support.

Deliver the best possible pricing and coverage for each submission in the most appropriate market and timeframe.

Establish relationships with agent contacts to promote confidence in RAIS marketing strategy, and reinforce our commitment to excellence in customer service.

Work with team members to mentor, coach and promote aggressive but appropriate marketing tactics.

Produce daily and weekly status reports to efficiently work with each underwriter to meet target dates consistently.


Competency - To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies. Agency Management system and related software (AMS 360 a plus). Must have solid prior knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), effective time management skills, and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment. Should have in depth knowledge of Commercial and Personal Insurance, as well as, Risk Management and Loss Control strategies.

Education and/or Experience - Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
