Annals of Workers Comp: Compensation at the Curb

One of the great conundrums of workers comp is determining when and where coverage begins. For most of us, the commute to work is not covered; we are  "in the course and scope" of employment only when we arrive at the workplace. (There are exceptions that we will address in another posting.) For police and firemen, coverage generally begins when they leave their "abode" for work. Today we examine an injury that occurred literally at the curb.

Renaissance Alliance Annual Meeting Highlights Members, Technology, Networking

At the 2016 Renaissance Alliance Annual Meeting, 400 insurance agency members, insurance company partners, key vendors and staff recently met at the Hyatt Regency, Newport, Rhode Island. The annual event is comprised of a highly interactive two-day program designed to foster learning, provide a forum for collaborative networking and review Renaissance Alliance goals and achievements retrospectively and prospectively. In addition, four new agency members were welcomed and 15 member agencies celebrated 5, 10 or 15 year anniversaries.

Annals of Workers Comp: Hasta La Vista, Baristas!

Antoneta Fetahaj worked as a Starbuck's barista in New York. Her supervisor asked her to empty a trash bin in the basement of the building. Accompanied by a co-worker, she suffered a head injury. She filed an accident report, stating that she was injured when the co-worker moved the trash bin while she was leaning against it. Her co-worker verified that this is what caused Fetahaj's injury.
