June themes for your agency's social media: Father's Day, Men's Health, Great Outdoors Month & more

When we think of June, our thoughts turn to Father's Day. Be sure to remind all Dads as well as all non-Dads to get a checkup for Men's Health Month. June marks the official start of the summer so it's fitting that it's also National Great Outdoors Month. There are ample opportunities to reach out to your clients via email, newsletters, and social media for other events, too. It's National Safety Month, so promote workplace safety themes - topics for 2019 are Hazard Recognition, Slips, Trips and Falls, Fatigue and Impairment. And with the summer season starting, focus on boating safety, pool safety, safe grilling, safe biking and securing your home before taking summer vacations.

Top 10 Causes of Disabling Injuries at Work

Liberty Mutual's Annual Workplace Safety Index ranks the top 10 most serious workplace injuries by their direct cost to employers. It analyzes non-fatal injury data to determine which events caused injuries that result in employees missing more than five days of work. This helpful infographic is great information for agents to share with commercial accounts to help focus safety and prevention efforts on the specific risks they face.

Focus on Workers Comp: Ready to Play Audit Double Jeopardy?

The Massachusetts Rating & Inspection Bureau (WCRIBMA) has issued Circular Letter No. 2348 establishing an “audit noncompliance charge” which mirrors the approach already operating in NCCI states. Any comp policy holders who try to avoid the premium audit are in for a big shock. The Bureau seriously wants comp policy holders in the voluntary market to cooperate with auditors. If a policy holder refuses to allow auditors access to their books, onerous penalties come into play: they will be fined two times their estimated premium! Thus an account with $25K estimated premium will owe $50K in penalties, plus the original $25K premium. Ouch!

SSIIAA Members Discuss Strategies for Agency Growth: Aside from gaining access to markets and participating in profit sharing, aggregators, clusters and alliances should be helping member agencies grow, according to Renaissance Alliance's Heather Cochrane Russo, VP of public relations and development, and Michael Cooney, CIC, VP of agency recruitment. Cooney told members of the South Shore Independent Agents Association that "the purpose of an aggregator has to go beyond a financial consideration. It has to help agents grow."
