Regional roof collapses mount
Roof collapses continue to mount in the Boston region, particularly after rain added further weight to snow encrusted roofs. This morning, the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency updated their count to 147 collapses and structural failures since 2/9/15 - with 23 of these occurring in the past day. Barns have posed a particular risk, as have warehouses and other flat-roofed structures. And while Massachusetts has seen the bulk of the collapses, other New England states have had problems too: NH, CT and RI. In addition to collapses, tragically, there have been at least two fatalities related to people falling through roofs when clearing snow.
While there's not much in the way of snow predicted for the coming week, there will be more frigid weather. Snow loads continue to be a concern. Here are some handy links, tools and tip sheets on roof safety that you could send out to your clients:
