Renaissance Alliance Insurance Agents Show What It Means to Be a Caring Company

This is a repost from our Caring Company Giving Tuesday blog post.

Renaissance Alliance insurance agents have a connection to their communities that larger organizations just can’t match. This Giving Tuesday, Renaissance Alliance is recognizing several of our member agencies for their charity and volunteer efforts. These agencies demonstrate the power of giving back - showing that with passion and dedication, all of us can do something to have a positive impact on the places we call home.

Abbate Insurance Associates (New Haven, CT)

In addition to participating in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk and a Walk Against Hunger for the Connecticut Food Bank, Abbate Insurance Associates of New Haven, CT has founded its own non-profit organization, Linens of Love , providing linens and toiletries to those in need at community shelters and service organizations dedicated to helping the homeless.

Doing a lot of work with community engagement, Jeff promotes In Control to local schools and helps raise funds for scholarships for kids unable to afford the $300 tuition.

This 501(c)(3) non-profit needs your help. They recently reopened their South Weymouth location, a project that cost the organization nearly $10,000. Please click here to take part in the “Drive In Control Challenge” and help In Control reach their fundraising goal of $100,000.

But that’s not all! Jeff also gives back to his community through Norwell Giving, a local organization that provides the funds for two scholarships and displays holiday lights in the Norwell Town Common. Over time, Norwell Giving has dedicated certain color lights in remembrance of hometown heroes. They also use this project to raise funds to the non-profit Pat Roche Hospice Home in Hingham, MA.

Richard W. Squeri Agency (Brandford, CT)

Jordan Mann of the Richard W. Squeri Agency in Brandford, CT is a childhood cancer survivor. As a kid, he attended Camp Rising Sun, a 1-week long, overnight camp in Colebrook, Connecticut free for kids with cancer ages 5-18.

With a volunteer team, an oncologist and plenty of nurses, this camp is a chance for kids to escape the grip cancer has on their lives and enjoy life like children deserve to.

Jordan has witnessed this camp grow into a huge success and been intimately involved in collection efforts. He and a friend organize the Camp Rising Sun Annual Night Out, a huge fundraising event attended by more than 1,500 people that features live music, raffles, silent auctions and more, all to raise money for this outstanding cause.

The Stone Agency (Guilford, CT)

The Stone Agency of Guilford, CT is very active with Guilford Youth Mentoring, a 15-year old program designed to mentor students within the Guilford School System, currently serving 165 students.

On a corporate level, the agency is a financial sponsor. In addition, staff members Doug Danaher, Rob Oman, Pattie Stone, Alex Conover and Kris White also directly participate in the mentoring. Doug Danaher serves on the Board of Directors and the agency encourages all employees to take part.

“Mentors are caring adults who build a relationship with a child which affirms that child’s worth and importance. Children improve in self-confidence and they feel safe and secure. Bottom-line, these students know they have someone who cares about them. Typically these are kids that need a friend," writes Doug Danaher. “We are proud of our invovement…..we don’t mentor to be recognized in the community, we mentor to help some terrific young people in our community! We get as much from the program as the students we mentor”

This year, staff are collecting both monetary and food donations. This year's agency goal was 1000 pounds of food and $250. As of mid-November, they had raised two-thirds of the cash and 52 pounds over their food goals, so they are well on track. With so many families in need, food drives like this have a direct impact on the community.
