Workers Comp with Bacon & Eggs

I spent a productive morning in Braintree MA recently at a breakfast meeting of 20 Southshore area agents. Sponsored by the Andrew Gordon Agency, I covered the full gamut of comp issues, from the general characteristics of all comp programs to the specific idiosyncrasies in Massachusetts. We delved into the current approach to experience rating in MA, which is now an outlier compared to the new NCCI rating plans operating in all the other New England states (and across the country, for that matter).

The seminar reviewed the basics of experience rating and honed in on the role agents need to play to keep their insureds informed and in control of comp issues. We also looked at comp across all the New England states, contrasting the high cost states (CT and VT) with the miracle that is MA, ranked 44th for cost in the Oregon comparative study. There were questions throughout, as agents were encouraged not to wait until the end to raise issues or concerns.
