We’re shining the spotlight on Renaissance Alliance member, Hollis Insurance Agency, a firm that exemplifies a strong commitment to the community it serves. Located in Plymouth, MA, Bob Hollis founded the agency 25 years ago to serve the personal and commercial needs of his neighbors. But that is only one part of what he does for his community – he also has a history of investing his time, efforts, and money to help to make Plymouth an all-around better place to live and work. Time and again, Bob has earned recognition as a true community leader.
One example of that leadership can be seen in how he has worked with the Plymouth Rotary to launch the “Nourish Your Neighbor” program, a creative response designed to help community members who experience financial hardship due to the Covid19 crisis. This creative local response raises $1000 each week, which it pays to local restaurants to produce nourishing, home-style meals for locals in need. This program helps to support local restaurants while supporting community members in a time of need. Hollis Agency has sponsored the program for one week and has worked to help line up sponsors for at least 10 additional weeks.
Bob is no stranger to investing in his community. Six years ago, he started The Spire Center for Performing Arts to give musicians and music lovers a place to congregate. Today, it’s a nationally recognized 270-seat performing arts center offering music of many different genres in a beautifully restored and preserved historic building. It’s an important community touchpoint adding to the local quality of life while being an economic driver for the hospitality business in Plymouth.
In addition to enhancing the local business and cultural climate, Bob and his wife Donna show equal commitment to helping to solve community problems. Recognizing the toll and heartbreak that addiction was taking on local families, they started the Plymouth Recovery Center to provide ongoing support for those who completed inpatient rehab programs. This is a necessary service because recovery from opioid addiction takes an average of 5 years and ongoing rehab support services were unavailable in the Greater Plymouth area prior to the Center’s launch. For the first few years after its launch, the Center was the only privately funded recovery center in the state, but has been successful in being awarded state funds this year.
There many other everyday ways that Bob lives out his community commitment – he’s been active over the years in Little League, Pop Warner Football, The Planning Board, the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and numerous other organizations.
Bob has also been a leader in the insurance industry. In 2014, he earned the prestigious designation of “Pacesetter of the Year” by Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents (MAIA). He joined the MAIA Board of Directors in 2005 and immediately became a member of their legislative committee. When the Massachusetts automobile insurance marketplace was undergoing dramatic changes with the introduction of managed competition, Bob assumed the chairmanship of MAIA’s legislative committee, successfully spearheading several legislative initiatives.
We are proud to have Hollis Insurance Agency as a member of Renaissance Alliance since 2001!
